What you need
- Your application coupon number, printed on the UTIITSL acknowledgement and in the confirmation email. Or, for a reprint or correction, your PAN.
- Your date of birth (or date of incorporation, for a firm or company).
If you have a 15-digit acknowledgement number rather than a coupon number, you applied through Protean (NSDL). Use our Protean PAN status guide instead.
How to check UTI PAN card status
- Go to the UTIITSL PAN website and open the option to track your PAN card or check PAN application status.
- Enter the application coupon number (or PAN) and your date of birth.
- Type the captcha and submit.
- The page shows where your application is and, once the card is dispatched, the speed post or courier number to track it.
UTI PAN statuses explained
| Status | Meaning | Next step |
|---|---|---|
Application received | Payment and form received | For non-paperless applications, make sure the signed form and documents reached UTIITSL |
Under process / sent to Income Tax Department | Being verified and processed | Wait |
PAN allotted / card printed | Your PAN is generated and the card is being printed | Look out for the e-PAN email |
Dispatched | The card has been posted | Track it with the consignment number |
Returned undelivered | The post couldn't deliver it | Contact UTIITSL with your coupon number to update the address or arrange redispatch |
Kept on hold / rejected | Missing documents or a data mismatch | Supply the missing document, or reapply with corrected details |
Common problems and fixes
- Coupon number lost: search your email for the UTIITSL payment confirmation. If you paid online, the payment receipt usually shows it.
- No movement for weeks: for physical applications, check that the signed form and documents were actually sent. Most delays come from documents that never arrived.
- Card arrived with a mistake: apply for a correction. See our guide to PAN card correction online.
- Already have a PAN from Protean or instant e-PAN: you can hold only one. Don't apply again; correct or reprint the existing one.
Reprint or correction through UTIITSL
UTIITSL handles more than new applications. Through the same website you can:
- Reprint a lost or damaged PAN card with no change in details. You'll need the PAN and date of birth, and pay the reprint fee.
- Correct details such as name, date of birth or photo. From April 2026 this is done on Form PAN CR-01 for individuals.
- Download e-PAN for a recently allotted PAN.
Each request gets its own coupon number, and you track it the same way as a new application.
UTIITSL PAN fees
The fees are set by the government and are the same at UTIITSL and Protean:
| Request | Approximate fee (incl. GST) |
|---|---|
| New PAN, reprint or correction, with a physical card delivered in India | About ₹107 |
| e-PAN only (PDF by email) | About ₹72 |
| Physical card delivered outside India | Higher; shown at payment |
If you only need the PAN quickly and have Aadhaar, the instant e-PAN on the income tax portal is free.
Applying in person at a UTIITSL centre
If you'd rather not apply online, UTIITSL runs PAN service centres in most cities, and many are operated through partner outlets. Take the original identity, address and date-of-birth documents with self-attested copies, and two recent photographs. The centre gives you an acknowledgement with the coupon number, which you track online exactly as above.
Keep the acknowledgement until the card arrives. It is the only quick way to trace an application if something goes wrong. If the centre made a typing mistake in your details, ask them to raise a correction before the PAN is allotted. Fixing it later means a separate correction request and fee.
Once your PAN arrives
Link it with Aadhaar if it isn't already. An unlinked PAN becomes inoperative, which blocks refunds and raises TDS. Check it with our PAN-Aadhaar link checker.
