Chinese researchers see climate change link to glacial collapse, warn of rising disaster risks

Chinese researchers have linked global warming with significant glacier retreat on the Tibetan Plateau. The glacier area shrank from 51,000 to 39,000 square kilometres over six decades. They warn that more than 14,000 glacial lakes are expanding, raising risks of sudden floods and landslides. Since the fastest lake growth is in the Himalayas near southern borders, downstream countries like India and Nepal are especially concerned.
